Server back-ups ???

Hi need a little help and advice.

I am running a linode with Debian 7.6 the mysql is is 5.4 and I want to upgrade to latest or at least 5.6

I am worried because I am running a WP site bridged to a Symphony application.

My question is if I do a snapshot of my server and all goes to pot will the backup restore the server to a running state?

I know this may seem a knob question but I am a bit of a linux newbie and the set up I have is delicate

Any tips or advice would be appreciated.

If you do a snapshot with our backups it should restore without a hitch, acting as if you just rebooted in that time and place. I'd say that a test sounds to be in order - enable backups, take a snapshot spin up a second Linode and and restore the backup to that second Linode.

Boot up and you should see if it's working or not. You can easily remove the services after testing if you do not need them:

Goodluck!

Thanks very mush for replying i will give it a shot fingers crossed.

I know this may seem a simple process for most but being a linux noob it irks me to get it wrong without a resolution to restore.
