"Latest 64 bit" kernel - 4.8.6-x86_64-linode78 or 4.9.0-x86_64-linode79 ?

Is there a reason that Linode supplies a 4.9.0 linux kernel but the "latest 64 bit" option is still listed as supplying 4.8.6?

I want to keep my linodes running the most up-to-date kernel with respect to security patches, so I'm a little confused as to what the discrepancy means.

See here: https://www.linode.com/kernels - Same thing is also showing when I go to select a kernel in in my linode's configuration profile.

We often provide new kernels for a while before promoting them to our Latest [stable] alias - to gain confidence that they're problem-free. Not all kernels make it, sometimes because of problems and sometimes because they're superseded. Often times there will be even newer ones that will eventually make it to our "Latest" alias…

IOW: The "Latest" kernels are our Latest Stable kernels that we know will work without issue.

There's also a Kernels RSS Feed if you're into that kind of thing.

Hope that helps!
