What about SSL Cert when migrating from old host?

I am migrating to Linode from a shared hosting service, where I have a valid SSL certificate. Am I going to somehow "move" or "copy" that certificate to my Linode, or must I get a new certificate? Will there be an interruption in SSL coverage when I transfer DNS?

UPDATE: Although there are posts on the internet which indicate you can just move the files from one server to another, for me, it almost works. My site loads an https:// request, but oddly, browsers indicate that the root CA expired two years ago.

Someone in Linode support explained to me that this is expected. I have now abandoned this approach.
