Apache server does not start after reboot

I tried to reboot the linode after switching to the latest kernel. Everything seems to work except of apache web server.

Before I rebooted, I did apt-get update & upgrade. The upgrade complained about the init levels.

Other than that that was no changes of any kind on the system.

Interestingly enough, when I try /etc/init.d/apache start, it does not even update /var/log/apache2/error.log or access.log.

Any help would be appreciated. Server not running is quite an isuue here.

Thanks in advance

Update #1:

Strange as it is, after about 30 minutes system running, I tried to /etc/init.d/apache2 start and it started running normally.

I wonder what might have happened.

Could it be a hardware problem, by ANY chance?

Because I haven't touched a thing since the last time it refused to start the apache web server.

In your first post you indicate you tried to start service "apache" in the second you indicated "apache2." apache2 would be correct. If that wasn't a typing error…that is the difference.

I had a similar issue and when I tried to reboot the linode after converting to the latest kernel. But after one hour it was working perfectly.
