Unable to upgrade Ubuntu 10.04 to 12.04: "WARNING:root:estimate_kernel_size_in_boot() returned '0'

Try to upgrade Ubuntu 10.04 to the next long term release 12.04, but the command do-release-upgrade terminated itself.

The Linode is not using custom kernel but the latest kernel as the screenshot below.

From the terminal output (attached below using Script), it looks like the error has something to do with WARNING:root:estimatekernelsizeinboot() returned '0'?

Please share your thoughts if you've experienced similar issues when upgrading Ubuntu 10.04 to the next long term release.

Thank you in advance.

When did you restore those disk images? Restored disk are 'shrunk'. Maybe resizing them to a larger size might help this issue.

We've resized the restored backup partition to use the full space as suggested.

We also deleted the old partitions that we were no longer using.

The upgrade command, sudo do-release-upgrade, seems to progress further but still terminates with the same error 'WARNING:root:estimatekernelsizeinboot() returned '0'?'

Anything else that I can do to upgrade the Ubutun 10.04 Linode properly?

Just tried doing the same thing and ran into the exact same issue. Did you manage to resolve this? If so what was the end solution?

Try pressing 'Y' and continuing when you get that warning.

While people do upgrades and it's quite common, personally, I never upgrade between major versions of distros. I like to do fresh installs to prevent any sort of issues cropping up without me knowing.

I have the same problem.

Last error in /var/log/dist-upgrade/apt.log = ERROR:root:Unauthenticated packages found.

How can I fix this?

Thank you.
